An increasing issue in recent years, energy efficiency is also a current concern for boaters: both beginner and experienced sailors feel the need to compromise between comfort, autonomy and low fuel consumption, both for environmental reasons and to save money.

So, whether at sea or on a river, along the Atlantic or Mediterranean coasts, with a combustion or electric engine - which energy-efficient power boat should you choose?

As a rule, a fuel-efficient power boat is one with low fuel consumption:  a motorised boat that allows you to navigate without spending too much, particularly on fuel.
But fuel saving is not only possible with a specific type of fuel-efficient engine: other criteria must be taken into account.
 

Factors affecting a boat’s energy consumption

In reality, whether the boat is powered by an electric or combustion engine, the technical and ergonomic decisions made by the shipyard determine whether or not it is a cost-effective boat.

There are a number of factors that can reduce or increase a boat's consumption and energy efficiency, including:

• The type of engine (diesel, gasoline, electric) and its power output.
• The shape of the hull.
• The boat's light weight.
• The boat's dead weight.
• The energy-efficient cruising speed.

Delphia 11: well-being and sobriety

Renowned as one of the most energy-efficient boats, the Delphia 11 stands out for its excellent range and exceptionally low consumption, whether powered by a combustion engine or an electric motor.

With its 9.99-metre hull length, the boat can carry up to 400 litres of fuel, enabling it to travel over 1,600 kilometres at a cruising speed of 8 km/h. The electric version has a range of over 228 kilometres with a fully charged battery (76 kWh).

With its 12-metre length and 600 litre fuel capacity, it offers an excellent range for inland or coastal cruises with full comfort, just like at home.

Electric and combustion: two types of motorisation to reduce costs with Delphia models

Delphia boats with electric motors: quiet emission-free operations

Among the cost-effective powerboats, the Delphia 10 and Delphia 11 can be equipped with an electric motor.  In this format, they provide their owners with emission-free peaceful outings, with no impact on the environment.

But electric power is not the only viable option for cost-effective navigation. The Delphia 10, 11 and 12, equipped with optimised diesel engines, also offer excellent power efficiency.

Delphia diesel boats: a low-consumption motorisation

Every choice we make at Delphia is inspired by the intended use. The combustion-engine models are therefore, equipped with perfectly sized diesel engines, which offer reliable performance, good autonomy and excellent energy efficiency.

Every diesel model is a fuel-efficient, cost-effective boat. The average fuel consumption is around 2 to 3 litres per 100 kilometres in everyday use, which is significantly lower than that of most boats equipped with a gasoline engine. 

The diesel-powered Delphia boats are all a credible alternative to electric models: whether for a short daytrip along the coast or a month-long cruise on the inland waterways, owners can enjoy a maximum cruising range with minimal fuel consumption, for navigation within their budget.

Speed is a key factor regarding fuel consumption and environmental impact

Our boats are designed for enjoying navigation at a controlled speed: on board the Delphia 11 and Delphia 12, for example, the optimal speed is between 6 and 8 knots.

In addition to low fuel consumption, crews enjoy smooth, peaceful journeys that allow them to reconnect with nature. Navigating more slowly also has a reduced environmental impact, as it avoids disturbing local wildlife and minimises the churning up of the seabed.
